•Lucia is a fierce Miami-Dade School Board Member fighting against the banning of books.
•Against all odds and the Proud Boys who targeted her in September 2023, she proposed a resolution recognizing October as LGBTQ History Month. Although disappointed by the Board’s vote against the resolution, it further strengthened her support for equality and inclusiveness.
•Lucia is the daughter of a Colombian mother and a Cuban father who fled communism during the 80s. She values the sacrifices her parents made to achieve the American Dream.
•As the first in her family to go to college, Lucia saw firsthand how education changes lives and she became a Miami Dade County Public School teacher.
•As a Miami-Dade County School Board Member, Lucia helped improve our schools, keeping them safe and protecting all students from extreme attacks, as well as ensuring students achieve educational success.
